How to Prepare for Trunk or Treat Season
The end of October means one thing: spooky season is here! Whether you’re looking for some low-key fun or a trek around the neighborhood, candy is more than likely in you and your youngster’s future.
One alternative to dressing up and walking around neighborhood streets after dark is a relatively new concept called trunk or treating. This is where groups of people typically get together in school or church parking lots, and decorate their trunks or hatchbacks of their cars, SUVs and vans to pass out candy and celebrate Halloween.
Be sure to check these tips for fun before you head out for your Halloween adventures:
Find your local trunk or treat event
The first step in preparing for a trunk or treat event near you is finding a place to participate. Look for listings on community Facebook pages or groups, as well as at any car dealerships that may be hosting events. Oftentimes, school or church groups will even host these trunk or treat events as safer alternatives for the community.
Although it may be a bit old-school, some newspapers or local radio stations will even share community events, so you may have luck finding information on trunk or treat events from those sources.
Be creative and use your resources!
Now is the time to get those creative juices flowing! Some trunk or treat groups may have themes that their participants stick to, otherwise, how you decorate your vehicle is completely up to you.
When constructing your trunk or treat design, be sure to keep in mind the theme you pick and the space you have available in your car, truck, SUV or van to pull off your ideas. If you need some help picking a theme, sites like Pinterest or even Buzzfeed offer up some great places to start.
Here are some fun ideas to help you get started:
- Cartoon characters
- Sports
- Haunted “car”
- Zoo with stuffed animals
