What to Do in Tacoma, Washington
When you have your own car, there are plenty of things to do in Tacoma. Just a few of our favorite sights and attractions include:
- Thornewood Castle
- Dock Street Marina
- The Museum District
- Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium
- Browns Point Lighthouse Park
This 500-year-old Tudor Gothic historic site covers over 27,000 square feet and boasts 54 rooms, including 22 bathrooms. There are also 35-acres of English gardens replete with elegant statues. You’ll recognize Thornewood Castle as the set from Stephen King’s Rose Red, but it’s also a choice site for romantic getaways and weddings.
Dock Street Marina
With first-class services and year-round guest moorage, Dock Street Marina is one of the most popular places for boats large and small, but you don’t need one to make the most of it. It’s just as fun to walk through this thriving artistic community, and you can always hire kayaks or stand up paddle boards to take to the water yourself.
The Museum District
Culture vultures love Tacoma’s historic downtown museum district, which is home to six premier establishments:
- Washington State History Museum
- Tacoma Art Museum
- LeMay — America’s Car Museum
- Museum of Glass
- Foss Waterway Seaport
- Children’s Museum of Tacoma
Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium
A world-class combined zoo and aquarium, the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium (PDZA) is arranged over 29 acres and home to over 9,000 specimens from 367 animal species. The park’s animal attractions include polar bears, elephants, sharks, and camels.
Browns Point Lighthouse Park
For a calm walk on a warm summer’s evening, there are few places better than Browns Point Lighthouse Park. Sitting right atop the tip of Browns Point, the area provides community waterfront access, so sunbathers and picnickers often make it their first choice when the sun is shining.
