  • There are various types of coverage (liability, collision, comprehensive, etc.), so you need to know which is most appropriate for you. 
  • You also need to understand your needs, such as knowing your state laws, knowing your various options for insurance, and knowing how much money you’re able to spend on insurance.  
  • Research your deductible and choose one that fits your budget needs.

Insurance Tips

  • Only shop for insurance using safe, “https:” secure websites. There will be a lock icon in your browser if the site is safe. 
  • Watch out for door-to-door and over-the-phone insurance salespeople. 
  • Don’t give out your insurance info or identification numbers to companies you don’t know. 
  • Keep a camera available in your vehicle so that if you are in an accident you are able to take pictures of the damage and people involved. 
  • Always get contact info from those involved in an accident and, if possible, from a witness or two.

Basic Information about Credit and Your Credit Rights

  • You have plenty of rights when it comes to applying for credit. 
  • Creditors may not ask about your race, sex, national origin or religion. 
  • They cannot ask you about your marital status or plans for children. 
  • You may have a co-signer other than a spouse if one is necessary. 
  • You have the right to know specifically why a credit application was rejected.
